    Taking a lead role in the day-to-day operation of the catering and retail areas, you will be the friendly face of the Canal & River Trust. Generally speaking you will be the first point of contact for customers coming to site.

     

    Efficiently manage the delivery of excellent customer service to target customers identified in the marketing strategy to increase the number of people using the waterways and maximise revenue. Deliver customer driven service and product improvements within a safe environment, supporting Canal & River Trust’s aims to improve safety whilst protecting the heritage and integrity of the inland waterway network.

     

    Your main responsibility will be overseeing the events and wedding team on a day to day basis, ordering stock and inputting data onto internal database, writing rotas and keeping within planned spending, managing budgets and actively seeking to improve the service and products we offer, ultimately increasing revenue throughout the operation. Working closely with management to relay changes to the team and supporting the team in their development.

     

    As part of the role you will be expected to work efficiently to complete a variety of tasks such as cash handling, operating touch screen till systems & chip & pin card devices, preparing and serving food/beverages, running the bar during the day and evenings, dealing with general customer enquiries over the phone and on a face to face basis. Throughout the shift there will be an element of manual handling, cleaning requirements and health & safety procedures that you will be required to adhere to.

     

    The successful candidate for this position will be required to work 37 hours from February to November, then 14 hours from November to February. This will be on an annualised contract.

    Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

    Responsibilities

    Within the successful candidate’s day to day tasks, they will demonstrate the ability to work flexibly between both environments.

    • Comply with Canal & River Trust’s Health & Safety policy and defined standards. Undertake risk assessments, report incidents, accidents and near misses.
    • Working within required rota patterns, provide excellent and efficient customer service to defined standards in a timely manner. Ensure information provided is current, up to date and in accordance with defined standards.
    • Maintain high standards of cleanliness within and around a customer facility. Ensure all areas are clean, tidy and hazard free and meet required standards.
    • Regular checking and maintenance of equipment to ensure fitness for purpose. Noting/reporting defects ensuring issues are rectified.
    • Take payment for goods and services (including bar), ensuring compliance with defined standards as appropriate. Receive and store cash and other means of payment, keeping records of monies received and process documentation.
    • Ensure all cash handling procedures are closely adhered to, and any discrepancies are thoroughly investigated and reported.
    • Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels, accountable for appropriate stock replenishment in line with relevant budget. Present and display goods offerings effectively and meet with potential suppliers.
    • Supervise the team, their development and team’s hours to keep in line with spending targets.
    • Accurately record, reconcile and report on sales, costs and stock levels via the EPOS and Stock Management systems on a timely basis.
    • Encourage continuous improvement through sharing knowledge experience and best practice with colleagues.
    • Assist with the promotion and delivery of special events and cover for other members of staff.
    • Provide office and private hire event support where needed. 

    Skills & Qualifications

    • Proven experience in a customer facing role, preferably a bar environment in a supervisory role.
    • Basic IT skills (essential)
    • Experience working within catering or/and events environment (essential)
    • Experience of cash handling (essential)
    • Relevant occupational qualification eg Food Hygiene certificate (preferable) Personal Licence Holder (preferred)
