The Canal & River Trust is one of the UK’s largest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings – preserving them for future generations.
The purpose of this role is to assist in the manual operations of the Anderton Boat Lift and to provide all Canal & River Trust customers with excellent levels of service. Assisting in the manual operations of the lift structure, this role is based outdoors thus you will be required to work in a variety of weather conditions and at height.
You will be required to work on a rota basis, including statutory holidays and weekends. You will be expected to work 1460 hours over the year, during the month March to November this will be 37 hours per week working 5 days in 7. Then the months there after will be 2 half days per week.
Being a team player, yet having the confidence to act on your own initiative and remain calm and controlled during difficult situations is essential. Customer interaction is a vital part of this position and as such you will possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively to a variety Canal & River Trust customers & colleagues. You will contribute to the maintenance, conservation and improvement of Anderton Boat lift. Working efficiently to defined standards the role helps to create a safe, secure and vibrant waterway network where visitors are delighted with the quality of their experience.
