The Canal & River Trust is among the UK’s biggest charities, looking after 2,000 miles of canals, rivers docks and reservoirs; together with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings.
As we look to recruit 10 Apprentices across England & Wales in 2018, we have 2 Apprenticeship opportunities available at our Heck Workshop, near Goole, East Yorkshire. Here you will develop your craft skill set whilst gaining valuable experience on the job, surrounded by experts and helping us to deliver our exciting plans for the future. As an Apprentice at the Canal & River Trust, you will be working in a truly unique environment with other staff and volunteers, developing your skills and gaining valuable experience.
Our Apprenticeship programme provides a great opportunity for you to enjoy and develop your craft skills here at the Trust. We recognise the need to ensure that traditional canal related skills are secured for the future and believe that Specialist heritage craft skills are unique and rewarding to have & to be able to turn to along side more modern techniques and methods.

About the role
We want you to succeed & progress - We are fully committed to support all of our apprentices during their training. We truly value their contribution to the Trust, and plan our recruitment to match to progression opportunities. Once the apprenticeship is completed and your work on site is to a satisfactory level, we aim to offer ongoing permanent employment opportunities with us.
We offer high quality Apprenticeship training - We are pleased to be partnered with The Building Craft College, based in Stratford, London. The Building Crafts College has a well-earned reputation as a Centre of Excellence in traditional building crafts and building conservation. They offer both craft and technical education at the highest level to all of their students. As a Trust apprentice, you will complete your apprenticeship training with both on and off-the-job training, with regular attendance (block release) at college. Unique opportunities - whilst on-the-job you will work with supportive work buddy’s and our Direct Services Apprentices Supervisor. We regularly arrange placements for you to build your portfolio, as well as opportunities to work on projects. No two days are the same!

Your Qualifications - In order to ensure that we recruit the right candidates for these roles, you must have already achieved at least a level 2 apprenticeship or college course in a relevant construction trade. This includes trowel occupations, bricklaying or craft masonry. If you have not already achieved your functional skills (Maths and English) you can complete these alongside your apprenticeship.
