    Every role across the Trust plays it's part in transforming our canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better, bringing wellbeing benefits to millions.  We are now looking for an experienced Procurement Manager to join our team, based from our Birmingham office.   In this role you will manage the tender process and/or informal quotation requests, for our 6 Regions and various internal departments from the organisations annual spend.

    Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

    About the role:

    • Analyse commodity areas, evaluating current and any alternative suppliers through SWOT, analysis and derive a Strategy/Action Plan to deliver value for the Benefit of the Trust.
    • Manage the contract schedule and procurement programme
    • Facilitate competitive tendering process, preparing tender packages for existing and prospective suppliers and negotiate pricing structure.  Actively negotiate ad-hoc purchases where required.
    • Provide direction and procurement expertise/advice to all areas of the business on strategic, commercial and risk management matters, particularly through the tender process
    • Recommend the award and extension of contracts to the Commercial & Procurement Sub Executive Committee.
    • Proactively deliver regular updates – Monthly Procurement Report, Contract Register, workload plan, 1-2-1s and other identified reports
    • Identify,develop and implement innovative supply chain initiatives/opportunities to improve VfM.
      Provide procurement excellence in the requested outputs in all areas of procurement.
    • Maintain knowledge of, and provide expert advice regarding UK and EU Procurement Law, Competition Law and Contract Law.
    • Act as point of expertise and best practice, assisting colleagues in following Canal & River Trust’s and other recognised procurement processes and procedures, providing coaching to managers as needed
    • Proactively seek to identify, develop and promote procurement issues/initiatives/opportunities to improve value for money, minimising risk and taking advantage of business wide economies of scale
    • Manage the Group Contract procurement programme
      On behalf of the Trust entering into legally binding contractual commitments for the supply of goods, works and services
    • Assist colleagues throughout the entire procurement process

    Your skills, experience & education


    We are looking for a degree educated, experienced chartered professional (CIPS) to join our team.  You will be able to demonstrate and bring with you the skills listed below:

    • Substantial experience within a similar role within an organisation of similar scale
    • Excellent communication, Supplier management, negotiation, and influencing skills.
    • Experience of industry standard forms of contract.
    • Appreciation and experience of the application of contract law.
    • Advanced computer skills.
    • In-depth Knowledge of TRUST and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply procurement standards and policies.
    • Experience of operating to a certified quality management system
    • Good understanding of SAP systems or other electronic procurement systems


    This role will be based from Birmingham however should be expected to involve regular national travel to other main offices across England & Wales.  You must therefore hold a valid driving licence.
