  • Job Purpose

    The Canal & River Trust is one of the UK’s largest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings – preserving them for future generations.  Our waterways and attractions are exciting, vibrant places to work.

     

    Reporting to and working alongside the commercial Duty Manager, excellent customer service is a core focus of this role, being the first point of contact for many visitors and creating that all important first impression.

     

    This vacancy is 22.5 hours per week and is a temporary role until July 2019. 

    Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

    The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organisational skills to enable them to adapt to the varied tasks involved in this role.

    • Proven experience of prioritising and managing the daily work tasks whilst complying with defined operational standards is essential.
    • With proven experience of working in an office environment, you will be able to demonstrate the ability to liaise with partners at all levels in a professional, efficient and appropriate manner. Whilst the post will largely be based within the office environment, it is not restricted to, thus the ability to adapt and respond to the business needs at short notice, is essential.
    • Using your initiative to make judgement decisions regarding any number of customer enquiries in this small yet busy office.
    • Being computer literate you will demonstrate the ability to create new and maintain defined systems of data whilst ensuring the integrity and accuracy of personal details.

    Qualifications

     

    • GCSE (or equivalent) in English & Maths (essential)
    • EDCL or similar (desirable)

    Skills & Experiences

     

    • Experience working in a busy customer service role (essential)
    • Experience of working face to face with customers (essential)
    • IT skills/knowledge (essential)
    • Experience of working within a sales environment (desirable)
    • Experience of speaking to large groups of people (desirable)
