    We are looking for an enthusiastic project manager to join our IT team at the Canal & River Trust. In this role, you will analyse business requirements, propose suitable solutions in conjunction with colleagues, and then drive those solutions through to realisation. Part of your remit will be to find ways to improve existing services. At the same time, you’ll be expected to collaborate with marketing, fundraising and other parts of the business to develop new services that enhance the experiences of supporters and volunteers. On the projects you lead, your areas of responsibility will include project planning, forecasting, resourcing, controlling costs and ensuring technical compliance.

     

    You will need a proven track record of full lifecycle project management, including experience of business analysis. It is also important that you can explain complex technical issues to non-technical staff.

     

    This opportunity can be based out of Birmingham or Leeds. 

    Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

    Responsibilities

    • Plan projects from initiation through to project close, including their implementation, to agreed plans, scope, time, budget, and reporting on exceptions as they arise.
    • Produce project plans under direction from project sponsors and project boards which identify project activities, dependencies, resource allocation and time scales
    • Undertake and document business process reviews and business analysis.
    • Produce regular Project Status Summaries, monitoring returns and reports for Steering Groups and Boards.
    • Initiate and, where appropriate, lead and attend internal and external meetings relating to projects that involves negotiation and influencing multi-disciplinary groups.
    • Identify, document and manage risks and benefits associated with IT projects.
    • Prepare and deliver IT project presentations and workshops
    • Provide effective management and leadership for all project activity or work assigned
    • Other related activities as appropriate.

     

    Person specification

    Essential criteria

    • Degree qualified or equivalent experience
    • Prince 2 Foundation
    • Relevant project management experience within an IT environment
    • Experience of managing a multi-disciplinary project team
    • Writing and presenting IT business cases
    • A good understanding of project risk and issue management
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to present advice and information in a clear and logical way

     

    Desirable Criteria

    • PRINCE 2 Practitioner 
    • Experience of working with Agile project management methodologies
    • Experience of IT procurement
    • Experience in the delivery of complex programmes, incorporating multiple inputs and stakeholders, management of fluctuating workflow and associated resource management
    • Experience of leading and managing teams to be successful and motivated
