  • Job Purpose

    We have an exciting opportunity to join the Trust as a Licencing Ranger working closely with the Boat Licence Customer Support Supervisor and Boat Licence Customer Support Officers to collect boat sightings data, issuing patrol notices and providing ad hoc customer service on the towpath. This role works outside 5 days per week in all weather conditions. The position is uniformed and candidates will need a full driving licence and be able to ride a bike. Accuracy and attention to detail is a key requirement of this position. The position currently covers the West and Central areas of London's Waterways, though cover may be required in other areas of the Region. 

     

    Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience :

    • Use of handheld computer (iPad).
    • Collect boat details by walking, cycling or boating.
    • Applying notices to boats for non compliance, i.e. No Licence, Overstaying.
    • Data inputting and analysis of boat data information.
    • Face to Face discussions with customers.
    • Ensure that the safety requirements are adhered to i.e Lone Working, Risk Assessment, Method Statements, Points of Work Assessment, Confined Spaces, Asbestos etc.
    • When requested, assist in the removal of boats under the Trust's Statutory Powers.

    Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

    Skills/qualifications required-

    • Computer literate (essential)
    • A good standard of literacy and numeracy
    • The job involves a high level of contact with customers, some of which will be receiving enforcement notices, so good communication skills are essential.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy is absolutely essential.
    • The individual needs to be organised and willing to work for long periods alone on site.
    • This role requires excellent team working skills, a logical thinker with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
    • Driving licence essential – Liveried vehicle.
    • Ability to ride a bike essential - provided.
    • Uniformed position.
    • Helmsman/Deckhand qualification (possibly BML) may be required in areas where a patrol boat may be operated (training provided).
    • Need for occasional weekend working, especially during the boating season.
