As part of our commitment to the long-term maintenance and restoration of the waterways, we are looking to recruit a Geotechnical Engineer on a Fixed Term Contract for a period of 1 year.


Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

About the role:

The primary focus of the role will be to support the Trust’s asset improvement programme. As part of a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers and Inspectors, you will provide an important role in the asset management, infrastructure works delivery and support the implementation of the asset management strategy for the Trust.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Geotechnical engineering input into a range of canal infrastructure projects.
  • Managing Framework Contractor’s to deliver the Trust’s programme of ground investigation projects.
  • Preparation of ground investigation documentation (Specifications, Briefs, H&S Documentation).
  • Site walkovers, inspection of earthworks and supervision of ground investigations
  • Input into the production of geotechnical desk studies and interpretative reports.
  • Management of the Trust’s geotechnical database.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum BSc or BEng qualification in relevant discipline. Relevant postgraduate master’s in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering would be highly desirable.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional organization (ICE, Geol Soc) and be working towards a professional qualification.
  • Proven experience in assessing infrastructure risk
  • Be able to interact with AutoCAD and GIS systems.
  • Familiar with slope stability, seepage and engineering design software e.g. slope/w and seep/w
  • Excellent standard of communication and proven ability to present technical data to non-technical colleagues and customers.
  • A proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Good report writing skills and the ability to self-check and to produce high quality and accurate work
  • Demonstrable experience in cross-functional working delivering performance across range of functions.
  • Experience in the delivery of excellent customer service standards.
  • Able to communicate with technical staff and external contacts.
  • Able to provide a good standard of written communication and proven ability to present technical data to non-technical audiences.
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety requirements.
  • Willingness to travel with occasional overnight stays across England and Wales.
  • Valid  UK driving license essential


What We Offer
