Job Purpose

Non-remunerated – volunteer role – expenses paid

Term: 3 years 

Circa: 2 days per month

The Canal & River Trust is the proud guardian of over 2,000 miles of historic inland waterways which touch millions of people across England and Wales. The Trust is among the UK’s largest and most complex charities, set up in 2012, and its income now exceeds £200m.  The Trust seeks a new Regional Advisory Board Chair, for the East Midlands. With strong connections to their region, the Chair will lead the Regional Advisory Board, guide and support the Trust’s Director for the Region, serve on the Trust’s Council and act as an ambassador for the Trust. 

 

Location coverage: Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Leicester, Leicestershire, Derby, Derbyshire, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, Newark, Northampton, Northamptonshire

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

As Chair you will bring a passion for our waterways and strong networks with local business, local government and other key regional partners in the communities we serve. We are keen for the Trust at all levels to reflect the diversity of communities around us. The Chair works closely with the Trust’s local Regional team, and has a voice into the wider Trust, so this is a chance to serve your local community and influence national policy for the waterways that millions of people enjoy and which play a vital role in both urban and rural areas of the country.  

 

You will bring skills and experience as a strong communicator, well-connected within your region, and able to engage with a range of different audiences. We are particularly interested in hearing from those with a strong understanding of the current funding climate, environmental issues, community engagement and volunteering.
