Salary: £45,000 FTE + benefits

Location: Remote (home), with regular travel for collaborative meetings.

 

Canal & River Trust is a registered charity, formed in 2012 to care for 2,000 miles of working canals, river navigations, docks and reservoirs across England and Wales Our vision is for our canals to be living waterways that transform places and enrich lives. Our 250-year-old canal network provides vital habitats for wildlife and essential open spaces and routes for people and boats, with towpaths available for everyone, every day. 

We have an opportunity for a Website & Digital Project Manager to join our Webteam on a part-time, fixed term basis. You will be supporting our Website Technology Manager and the core delivery team to set up and manage a new project, aimed at delivering a best-in-class web presence for our customers and supporters. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Project Manager who has experience of working in the web & digital space to contribute to the success of a major project, aligned with the Trust’s strategic aims to improve customer experience and to raise awareness and support amongst the general public 

Our ideal applicant will: 

  1. Be happy performing a PT, fixed term, contract. 
  2. Have experience project managing website/digital development projects involving e.g. web build, CMS, UX, web design, behavioural science, user testing, user journey mapping.
  3. Have experience of translating complex, technical web and digital development updates to internal stakeholders.
  4. Have experience of digital project management and collaboration tools e.g. Azure DevOps, MS Planner, Asana, Miro,Figma.

Location

The role will be based working from home, with the allocation of a nearby Hub for collaborative working. Hubs include: Ellesmere Port, Burnley, Leeds, Newark, Birmingham, Gloucester, Milton Keynes & London. 

 

Intermittent (1 - 2 times max per month) in person team meetings are currently held in Birmingham, so applicants must be happy travelling when required. 

 

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

About the role 

  • We are looking for a Project Manager to support a new project to scope out and deliver an improved website and wider digital ecosystem that drives excellent experiences for our customers and supporters, and meets our charity’s strategic goals.
  • You will report into the technical delivery lead (Website Technology Manager) for the duration of the contract.
  • Working with the technical delivery lead, key stakeholders and third parties, you will produce appropriate project documentation and plans, including resource plans, task lists, risk and issue logs, communications, scope definition & RACI diagrams. 
  • You will coordinate Project Gateways & sign-off processes.
  • You will own the transition plans to ensure the delivered phases of the project move into a support phase in a smooth and controlled way and where needed create any materials needed to complete these activities  
  • You will produce regular project status updates for the technical delivery lead, steering groups and project reviews as needed.
  • You will engage with and proactively work with delivery teams, technical and IT team members and project stakeholders to ensure the delivered solutions are fully tested, supportable and meet the project requirements 
  • You will help to coordinate delivery teams (internal and external as required) and any other resources needed to ensure success of project.

 

About you

You will be a highly organised, personable and adaptable project manager. The ideal candidate is someone who loves taking the lead and working with multiple stakeholders (technical and non-technical) across a busy and complex organisation. You will be able to translate complex issues and progress updates into easy-to-understand language and very clear and regular status updates, supporting the Website Technology Manager and other delivery leads in reporting progress to core senior stakeholders 

Essential Criteria: 

  • Relevant project management experience on large projects within a web/digital environment (web builds, CMS, UX, web design, behavioural science, user testing, digital journey mapping etc.).
  • Experience of managing a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional project delivery teams including agencies.
  • Experience in the managing the delivery of complex programmes, incorporating multiple inputs and stakeholders.  
  • Management of fluctuating workflow and associated resource management.
  • A strong understanding of project risk and issue management.
  • Prioritises customer-focused, evidence-based decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including with senior level stakeholders, with the ability to present complex, technical information and requests for sign-off/input in a clear, logical and timely way. 
  • High attention to detail, excellent planning skills and works well under pressure. 
  • Lives life at the top of the accountability ladder - proactive self-starter, strong team player.  
  • Experience of coordinating and facilitating in-person and video-based meetings and workshops.  
  • Familiar with digital collaboration and project management tools and platforms such as Azure DevOps, MS Planner, Asana, Miro and Figma.  

 

Desirable Criteria: 

  • Experience of working within the charity/nonprofit sector.
  • Experience of working with Agile project management methodologies. 
  • Experience of working with a geographically diverse organisation. 

 

Desirable Qualifications and Memberships: 

  • Relevant project management qualifications e.g. PRINCE 2 and Agile are desirable– but equally important is the ability to adapt and be flexible to project and stakeholder needs, and to communicate in accessible language to a wide range of stakeholders.
